3 Dimensional Surveys
|
Scopus Engineering ProfileIncorporated in the late 1980s, SCOPUS Engineering is a specialist Accuracy Control and Infra-Red Electronic Survey Company providing 3D CAD modelling
services to primarily the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry for existing and replacement fabricated equipment, utilizing electronic laser data capture technology.
Major material and time saving cost benefits are facilitated by the accurate digitized system (data can be sent over the internet to fabrication site) which can be used for both new build and brown-field modification projects. |
SCOPUS Engineering can also provide a complete engineering package which has assisted in developing a reputation for problem solving and the ability to deliver, with the customer base now spanning all 7 continents and over 50 qualified surveyors included in the service team.

SURVEYING
SCOPUS Engineeringoffer a complete dimensional control survey service, currently utilizing three methods depending on the nature and accuracy requirement of the project.
- Infrared EDM Total Station
Used where high precision detail and critical items are required to be at sub millimetre accuracy.
Distances are measured to a reflective target.
- Laser EDM Total Station
Of lower accuracy than infrared instruments (+/- 1-3mm),but with the advantage of working without
the need for reflective targets, (non-contact system). Very effective in measuring to inaccessible
locations.

- Laser Scanner
This is utilized for mass capture of existing facilities. It can record 5000 co-ordinate points per
second and can scan through 360 degrees with a range of 100m to create a 3D point cloud image of the scanned area. Components are subsequently applied to the point cloud to generate a 3D surface model which
can be exported from the modelling software in several formats including AutoCad, MicroStation, PDS and PDMS. The accuracy of this system is +/- 3mm. Click for Laser Scanning animation |
Benefits of 3D Survey
- Guaranteed Clash Free Design Packages
- Maximize On-Shore Fabrication Into Design Package - No Growth
- Eliminate Hot Welds Off-Shore
- Minimize Necessary Off-Shore Testing
- Minimize Shut Down Duration
- 3D Modelling Data Files handed Over To Client as Management Tool For Future Project Reference etc.
ENGINEERING
The SCOPUS Engineering team have over 100 years accumulative experience in both front-end and detail engineering for modifications to facilities both in the North Sea and abroad.
This in-depth engineering resource coupled with laser technologies can provide safe and cost effective
solutions for clients in the area of :-
- New flowlines
- Brownfield structural and piping modifications, including pipe supports.
- "Like for like" change-outs (corrosion damage replacement).
- Structural deck extensions and modifications.
- Stress Analysis.

BRIDGE LINKED PLATFORMS Dimensional tolerances rigorously controlled allowing 600 installation interface spools to be pre-determined and shipped with modules. Installation and commissioning in record time, producing project savings of US$296,000,000.
| The objective was to eliminate all welding offshore during the hook-up phase of the project. This consisted to 3 jackets, 7 modules, 2 bridges and 450 interconnecting pipe spools. All installed with no welding. Major savings not only on cost but on schedule. | |
| All the interconnecting pipework was surveyed and fabricated prior to the
installation of the topside modules, the spools were loaded out inside the modules.
Once the modules were installed the spools were lifted into position and bolted.

ON SHORE PLANT Computerized plant asset management facilities: An exact 3D model of plant and process in the format desired; AutoCad, Microstation, PDS and PDMS.

BROWNFIELD MODIFICATIONS
|
FIXED PLATFORM Module support frame installation. As-build of new module support frame overlay with offshore laser and clash report produced.
| New Subsea Risers. Shut down duration drastically reduced by the use of dimensional control technology. | |
|
FPSO New pump room pipework on FPSO. Almost all FPSO conversions are carried out on 25 year old tanker hulls. These hulls generally either have outdated or in some cases no design drawings. This leads to major problems when changing out the pump room pipework. Surveying these
areas and overlaying the new design will highlight any clashes and other potential
dimensional problems.
|
ONSHORE PLANT As-built of existing facility to enable dismantling and re-building in same configuration 15km away.
