Central West Thailand: Tak Province is located 450 km.north of Bangkok and 250 km.south of Chiang Mai with the Myanmar (Burma) border 85 km.to the west. In the 1890’s Tak, on the banks of the river Ping, was at the heart of the teak logging trade dominated by the Borneo Co. and Louis T. Leonowens (son of Anna Leonowens who taught English to several of King Monkut’s 82 children, characterized in the movie “The King and I”) Prior to the arrival of the railways, the journey from Bangkok to the remote northern outpost of Chiang Mai could consume three months of arduous travel. First, up river by flat boat, then by elephant into the highlands fighting floods, insects, bandits, tropical heat and the inevitable maneating tiger. It was in this environment that Tak first became popular as a safe natural break for travelers heading north!

Fortunately things a somewhat different today with a 4-lane highway making the journey through scenic tropical countryside interesting and relaxing. Flight’s are also available to local airports at Phitsanuloke and Sukhothai (Short onward flights to visit the haunting ruins of the ancient Angor Wat Khmer temple in Cambodia are available for cultural explorers).

Though not internationally famous (no crowds) Tak Province provides a charming step back in time offering stress free rural countrystyle living in beautiful, clean, natural surroundings. Golf, biking, kayaking, rafting, trekking, Sukhothai World Heritage site , exciting local markets and the Burmese border at Maesot are all options to enjoy. Also Bhummiphol Dam, the largest in Thailand is just a short drive away and well worth exploring.

Northern Thailand: Amidst rolling foot hills some 700 kilometers north of Bangkok is the culturally rich city of Chiang Mai, the longest continuously lived in settlement from the ancient days of Siam. Foundered in 1296 AD it remained isolated to the outside world until the railways arrived in the 1920’s which has helped maintain its distinctive charm up to the present day. Chiang Mai is not only the home of culture, charm, handcrafts and hospitality but is packed with adventure options as well. Elephant riding, trekking, hiking, camping and long tail boat riding are all popular activities and are offered in our personalized excursions.

Orchids, butterflies, and exotic flora and fauna will surround you, friendly hill tribe people greet you, with waterfalls and spectacular mountain top vistas to take your breath away. This is the best way to enjoy the unique natural beauty of Northern Thailand country side and it's people.
