Built in 1991 to a design by Yoshikazo Kato, the Blue Canyon Country
Club is situated just South of the airport, about 50 minutes from
Patong and is renowned as one of the most beautiful and prestigious
courses in Asia. The club was chosen in 1994 and 1998 as the host
venue for The Johnnie Walker classic, Thailand's leading golf
tournament, as well as the Honda Classic in 1996. There are two
courses, the Canyon Course and the new Lakes Course.
Canyon Course
For the Canyon Course, the designer took full advantage of the
landscape to create a world-class championship course of outstanding
natural beauty, which represents a challenge to all standards
of players. Natural hazards such as lakes, trees, well guarded
fast greens, narrow landing areas and skillfully placed bunkers
reward accuracy and make each hole uniquely memorable, with the
signature "Canyon" holes being particularly spectacular. The choice
of 5 teeing grounds allows the course to be played from 7,119
yards from the back tees to a comfortable 5,974 yards off the
forward tees, offering sensible options for players of all levels.
Probably the most famous of the course's holes is the par three
14th hole, which demands a perfect tee shot onto an island green

Lakes Course
The comparatively new Lakes Course, with its panoramic views of
the nearby mountains, presents golfers with a contrasting challenge.
Its undulating fairways and long water-carries reward the bigger
hitters. As one would expect, the clubhouse is large and luxurious
and offers stunning views over the courses.
For those wanting to improve their game, The Blue Canyon Golf
School offers the perfect golfing retreat, with internationally
reputed management and service standards one can only find in
the exotic surrounds of Thailand.
The first Gary Player Golf Academy in Asia was opened at Blue
Canyon in 1994. Since it opened in late 1991, the Canyon Course
has welcomed world-ranked players, such as Tiger Woods, Greg Norman
and Ernie Els.
