Phuket
Country Club
Located roughly 15 minutes from Phuket Town, the 11 year-old
Phuket Country Club has two courses and is built on the site
of a former tin mine.
The Old Course
The Old Course provides a strenuous resort 18 hole, 6,483 yards,
par 72 golf game. The 10th hole is one of the most unusual you
will find anywhere: a 557 yards par 5 that snakes around an
enormous lake, with the green being reachable in one! To achieve
this feat, you must aim 90 degrees right of the fairway - and
be able to carry your drive 240 yards over the water (see Hole
10 on the course layout).
The course is fun and friendly, set in a valley with the fairways
meandering through the hills and limestone cliffs. During a
round you traverse three distinct environments: six holes in
undulating hills, six on the level, and six through landscaped
forest.
It is generally not humiliating or intimidating (depending on
your temperament, of course) and wayward shots are not penalised
too severely. Although high handicappers can have the best round
of their life and keep coming back for more, low handicap players
can still find the course quite a challenge.

The Country Club Course
The newer Country Club Course is a challenging 3,575 yards (championship
tees), par 37, 9-hole course, which is particularly suitable
for lower handicap golfers. The picturesque beauty of the scenery
and layout somewhat softens the difficulty of the course but
watch out for those wayward shots, as all are penalised by landing
either in water or out of bounds. However, with five tee-boxes
at each hole, you have the choice of making it less of an ordeal.
Water is a common feature and it comes into play about 90% of
the time. Black swans glide amongst the water lillies, taking
very little heed of your slices.
Both Phuket Country Club courses were designed by the renowned
Thai architect, Dr, Sukitti Klang Vishai.
